FAQ & Policies

Right now with 6 people definitely signed up the price quoted for the trip is $1,900.00 per person. If we have 12 or more people sign up total, then the price will begin to drop significantly and we could get it as low as $1,700. The more people who go the better the price becomes for all of us. Please note: The price is subject to change depending on the number of people going and the price of airfare at the time of booking the flights in the Spring and we will notify you as soon as everyone signs up by January 16, 2015. We want the best price for all of us. So if you have a friend who is interested tell them to sign up.

Age Requirement: 18—35 College age and young adults. Anyone under the age of 18 and over the age of 35 will need to be approved on a case by case basis.

You will need a passport for this trip and another valid picture id card such as a drivers license or a state id card.

Accommodations: When at CIMA del Rey (Assemblies of God Retreat Center) – bunk beds. You do not need to bring sheets or sleeping bags. The beds at CIMA are already furnished with what you will need.

Trip Length: April 10 – 17, 2015

Climate: Hot and Sunny!

Items needed for the trip: Sunscreen, towel for the shower time, tennis shoes, a modest swim suit: girls: 1 piece or tank-eenie that covers the mid section and meets together, swim suit cover up, guys can swim in shorts, sunglasses, hat to shade sun, water bottle, toiletries (toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc.), a small package of wet wipes and hand sanitizer.

Ministry items to collect and bring with you: lots of small toys and candy (Happy Meal or Dollar Store quality, bouncy balls, bracelets etc) as well as  Children’s books and Bibles in Spanish, coloring books, and crayons.

Make sure the candy you bring will not melt (So no chocolate – please, it will just make a mess). Dum Dum lolly-pops, mixed candy, sweet tarts, pixie sticks, suckers, etc. will all be greatly appreciated.

Shots are at the discretion of the parents. Most school age students are up to date on shots. A tetanus is highly suggested because we will be doing some light construction work. As for any other shots you can ask your local health dept what they recommend. As far as we know, there are no outbreaks in the Dominican at this time. You can look up on the Center for Disease and Control website for a list of recommendations.

Please make sure all your clothing is modest. No low and revealing shirts. Shorts must be at least mid-thigh. A good standard to test them by is to  place your arms by your side and make sure your shorts are below where your finger-tips end. It is a good idea for girls to wear bike shorts under shorter shorts and under skirts during ministry. Leggings are great too, even though it is hot it will keep the bugs off your skin. Ministry T-shirts must be worn each day after arrival in the Dominican. You will be given 2 shirts and we will rotate washing them each day.

When we are ministering on the streets girls have to wear a skirt. The Missionary’s daughter suggested a cotton skirt from Old Navy or Ross. It hangs just around or below the knees and works great. Maxi skirts are great too. Guys can wear long pants when ministering on the streets. As for church: girls: skirt and nice shirt. Guys: slacks or jeans and shirt. Any clothes you may want to take and leave for the kids there would be appreciated as long as they fit in your suitcase. Sometimes we pack our suitcase with clothes we will wear that we don’t care if we get it back and leave it for the people there. They really appreciate it. You don’t have to do this, it was just a suggestion by Jess the Missionary’s daughter. She has given clothes before and they really seemed to like it.

Items not to bring: No illegal substances, non-prescribed pharmaceuticals, illegal drugs, weapons, or firearms of any kind

Emergency Procedures: We do purchase trip insurance for each person. In the case of emergency or illness, parents/guardians (in the case of minors) and emergency contacts (in the case of adults) will be notified at the earliest possible time to make medical decisions or just for informational purposes.
